VIDEO: Zidan scores fourth pre-season goal for Dortmund Mohamed Zidan continues his fine form in pre-season friendlies after scoring Borussia Dortmund's winner over French side Valenciennes on Tuesday
Mohamed Zidan notched his fourth goal in pre-season friendlies as German champions Borussia Dortmund beat French side Valenciennes 1-0 on Tuesday. The Egypt forward scored what proved to be the winner three minutes before the interval with a simple tap-in after an attempted lob was parried by the keeper into his path. He also scored twice to help Dortmund crush sixth-division side VFL Rhede 7-1 before finding the net in the team's 2-0 win over Hamburg in the Liga Total Cup final earlier this month. However, it remains to be seen whether his fine pre-season displays could prompt Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp to rely on him as a regular starter next season. The 29-year-old was kept on the bench as Dortmund missed out on winning the German Super Cup, the annual curtain-raiser to the new season, after losing to cup winners Schalke 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw. Reports linked Zidan, who was born in Port Said in Egypt, with a move to Egyptian champions Ahly but he eventually opted to remain at Dortmund with the aim of experiencing European Champions League football for the first time in his career.
