Liverpool manager shortens trip amid Downing deal
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is returning to England to sign Stewart Downing from Aston Villa, cutting short his pre-season Asian tour

Liverpool announced Wednesday it had “been granted permission to discuss personal terms” with Downing.
The team arrived in Malaysia on Thursday for its preseason Asian tour but an official representing the Malaysian sponsors of the tour said they have been told Dalglish would fly back to England later Thursday. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to make the announcement.
The official spoke after Dalglish told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur that Liverpool would “reveal the details (of the deal) once everything is sorted out.”
