Prosecutor General continues investigations into lootings of presidential palaces A few medals and gold jewelry have been found left in Mubarak's palaces, according to an investigative committee
Prosecutor General Abdel Megid Mahmoud is carrying on with investigations into the alleged looting of presidential palaces during the security vacuum created by the start of the January 25 Revolution. A fact-finding committee, which was formed upon the request of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), said no money or valuable gifts were found at any of the eight presidential palaces in Egypt. However, the committee members found a set of medals that was dedicated to deposed president Hosni Mubarak by several countries. The committee also found about LE20,000 worth of gold jewelry, presumably belong to his wife Suzanne. No documents listing the possessions of the Mubaraks have been found. Zakaria Azmi, the former chief of presidential staff, and Major General Gamal Abdel Aziz, the ex-secretary of Mubarak, were responsible for opening safes and wardrobes in the palaces. Ahram daily learned that an inventory committee will be formed in an attempt to list the missing items.
