Azzedine Ait Djoudi, the coach of the Algerian Olympic football team has been promoted to the senior job, according to French newspaper L'Equipe.
“Algeria should be temporarily filled by Azzedine Ait Djoudi,” L'Equipe reported adding that “Vahid Halilhodzic, Rolland Courbis, Philippe Troussier and a candidate close to president of the Algerian FA Mohamed Raouraoua are shortlisted for the permanent deal.”
Algeria former manager Abdelhak Benchikha resigned Sunday after the 4-0 drubbing to Morocco in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers 2012 last Saturday and he was reportedly backed by former tactician, Rabeh Saadan.
“Benchikha shouldn't quit. Raouraoua is the one who has to go,” Saadan was quoted as saying by Algerian press.
The Algerian number one sports magazine, El-Heddaf, launched a fierce attack on the players for their poor display and attitude in the historical defeat.
“The players spent their time before the game in choosing a place to spend their vacation and comparing the prices and tours instead of focusing on a match that all Algerians fans wait,” El-Heddaf newspaper reported.
“Chaos is the perfect word to describe the team's camp since they arrived in Marrakech. The fans only blamed the local-based players, instead they should have attacked the foreign-based players who went ‘celebrating' after the defeat,'” the report said.
Morocco and Central African Republic are joint leaders of the group with seven points each, while Tanzania and Algeria are third and fourth respectively with four with only the group winner guaranteed a place at the biennial 16-nation African football showcase.
