Holders ES Setif avoided a last-16 elimination at the African Champions League despite conceding a stoppage-time goal, prevailing in penalties against Morocco's Raja Casablanca to reach the competition's group stage. The Algerians looked to be cruising to a comfortable home win when El Hadi Belameiri gave them a seventh-minute lead before Mourad Delhoum added the second on 49 minutes to make it 4-2 on aggregate after the first-leg ended in a 2-2 draw in Morocco. However, Abdelilah Hafidi narrowed the deficit eight minutes later to revive Raja's hopes. Adil Karrouchy wasted a penalty two minutes into stoppage time but, in a dramatic finale, made up for the miss on the rebound to force a shootout after Raja leveled the aggregate score. Setif won 4-1 on penalties to continue their bid towards a second consecutive Champions League crown. The Algerian side clinched their second Champions League title in history after defeating DR Congo's Vita Club in last year's final. They also won the African Super Cup on penalties earlier this year following a 1-1 draw with Egyptian giants Ahly.
