Ex-housing minister and Alaa Mubarak's father-in-law referred to criminal court

Prosecutor-general Abdel Megid Mahmoud has referred former housing minister Mohamed Ibrahim ‎Soliman, four of his deputies and businessman Magdi Rasekh to the criminal court on ‎charges of embezzling public funds.
Investigations revealed that Soliman and his accused deputies had paved the way for Rasekh, the father-in-law of toppled president Hosni Mubarak's elder son, Alaa, to make illegal profits of LE907 million.‎
Rasekh is accused of failing to fulfil financial obligations towards the government with regards to reclaiming 2,550 acres of land in Sheikh Zayed City. The minister of housing should have seized them all but confiscated only 885 acres.‎
The wealthy businessman was allowed to sell the remaining land, which is also regarded as illegal.‎
A large number of former ministers and governmental officials have been detained after accusations of abusing their political power to accrue illegal profits‎.
