I secured achievements despite league loss: Zamalek's boss Mido After only one season in charge at Zamalek, Mido asserts his accomplishments with the club, hails youth players
Zamalek Coach Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam believes that he has secured accomplishments with the Whites despite having lost the league title to rivals Ahly. Ahly were crowned Egyptian champions for the eighth straight time after playing out a goalless draw with Smouha in the title decider late on Monday. The Cairo giants took their tally of league titles to 37, maintaining a huge gap over bitter rivals Zamalek, who won the last of their 11 titles in 2004. Also on Monday, Zamalek secured a Confederation Cup spot after finishing third in the Egyptian league following a 2-0 win over Petrojet. It was Zamalek's first win in the league's final playoff that earned them a place at Africa's secondary club competition. "We had achievements during my reign at Zamalek: we reached the Egyptian Premier League's final playoff as well as the African Champions' league group stage, despite the difficult circumstances we encountered," Mido said after the match. "I am happy with the moral win against Petrojet and also with the third place," he added. The former Roma, Ajax and Tottenham player, Mido fielded five youngsters after deciding to sideline several under-performing players following the 2-1 loss to Smouha last Wednesday. "Pushing some youth players in the match was successful. I proved my point of view that some of the team's veteran players can no longer compete," Mido concluded.
