A Guest Without A Host Is A Ghost, a visual arts project that takes the absence of public or private contemporary artwork collections in Egypt as its starting point, kicks off its dynamic public programme A Guest Without a Host Is a Ghost is a visual arts project that takes the absence of public or private contemporary artwork collections in Egypt as its starting point. Spread out across three venues -- the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC), Townhouse and Beirut -- the exhibition opened during the first week of May. As part of the project's dynamic public programme, film works by Eric Baudelaire, Julien Crépieux, John Menick and Melvin Moti will be presented to audiences from 2 to 18 June at Townhouse, Beirut, the CIC and the Institut Français in Mounira. A series of talks will also be ongoing throughout June. Beirut, an art space co-founded by Sarah Rifky and Jens Maier-Rothe in May 2012, imagines the fictional presence of such contemporary art collections with this year-long project. Thirty artworks borrowed from the Kadist Art Foundation (Paris, San Francisco), an interdisciplinary institution with a growing contemporary art collection, have taken up residence in Cairo from May 2014 to April 2015. Described by Beirut as a "temporary guest to the city," this miniature collection will appear in various shows and events across Cairo, realised in collaboration with the CIC, Townhouse, Institut Français d'Egypte au Caire, Gypsum Gallery, ArtTalks, Goethe Institut, Cimatheque, and the public.
