34 accounts of violence against children in two weeks: State council Egyptian National Council of Childhood and Motherhood says it monitored 34 cases of violence in just two weeks in April
A recent report by the Egyptian National Council of Childhood and Motherhood has shown an obvious increase in violence against children, with 34 reported cases in just two weeks in April. The report said that monitoring over the past three-and-a- half months showed that the highest rates of violence were murder cases (32 percent), followed by rape (23 percent). Other violent cases included kidnapping, trafficking, negligence and torture against children. Head of the council Azza El-Ashmawi said that it intervenes directly in all violent incidents that are reported through their telephone hotline, 16000. A new constitution passed in 2014 has provided better protection against violence and embraced more specific language on child labour, observers say. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/100701.aspx
