Egypt's authority transcends the Islamic state and its Arab identity and Egypt has minorities who should obtain their rights, said Ehab al-Kharat, a leader in the Egyptian Bloc, at a seminar in Cairo Friday. Kharat added that the Egyptian Bloc agrees with different principles mentioned in Ali al-Selmy's supra-constitutional principles document, but it rejects Article 9 and highlighted the necessity of amending it. He said that they would not participate in the million-man demonstration scheduled for Nov. 18. Kharat added that the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafis mix politics and charity work. He said that 37 percent of assemblies in Egypt were established on a religious basis. Kharat said their electoral program aims to reform the police and turn it to a civil institution by removing military cadres from its workers. He expressed their support for an independent judiciary, adding that they will work to attract huge investments to support the Egyptian economy.
