CAIRO: The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) today escalated its condemnation of the supra-constitutional principles document, calling on Deputy Egyptian Prime Minister Ali el-Selmy to step down. The MB and its supporters today distributed an publication called “A statement from the Muslim Brotherhood concerning Deputy Prime Minister's call to release a constitutional announcement and to form a constituent assembly.” Many mosques in Cairo and Giza today saw the distribution of the publication, which urges citizens to reject el-Selmy's document. The publication states that national forces will not allow for the minority position to be forced on the majority. “After the political situation calmed down and political forces began parliamentary election procedures, we were surpised by el-Selmy's call to impose constitutional articles and choose a constituent assembly,” the publication reads. “This is a violation of Article 60, which states that the constituent committee should be elected only by the nominees chosen by the People's Assembly and the Shura Council,” the statement continues. “El-Selmy's document is a violation to the people's rights,” it added. “Accordingly, we demand the dismissal of Ali el-Selmy and if the governments insists on this document we will demand the dismissal of the entire government,” the statement concludes.
