The Free Front for Peaceful Change today announced its support for the ruling constitution document put forward by Deputy Egyptian Prime Minister Ali Selmy. The Front said the document has “commendable consequences” as it establishes democracy and citizenship in Egypt and includes principles like freedom and equality for all Egyptians under the law. “The document upholds Article Two confirming that Islamic Sharia is the source of all legislation in Egypt, but it gives non-Muslims the right to be judged by their own laws when it comes to personal status,” said the Front. The document must be an essential model for those who will write the constitution, they added. The Front invited the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafis to take part in a dialogue regarding the document in order to honor Egypt's transition to democracy.
