Former Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq said he would run for president if he does not face “obstacles,” at a visit to the Agricultural International Sahara exhibition Monday. Farmers and visitors at the exhibition met Shafiq and asked him to run in the upcoming presidential elections. Shafiq also said that agriculture, like tourism and industry, is a main part of the Egyptian economy, and should be of great concern. “The Egyptian farmer suffers a lot. The Egyptian government therefore must give him great concern because he guarantees the agricultural future in Egypt,” said Shafiq. The Agricultural International Sahara exhibition is the only agriculture exhibition in Egypt. Shafiq and Hamdeen Sabbahi, another potential presidential candidate, attended the exhibition Monday. Egyptian presidential candidate Amr Moussa is scheduled to visit the exhibition Tuesday.
