CAIRO: Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau Khaled Mashal and his delegation today left Cairo after ratifying the prisoner swap deal. Mashal arrived in Cairo on Wednesday to complete the prisoner swap deal under which 1,000 Palestinian prisoners will be released for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Israeli Army Chief of Staff Benny Jants unveiled the different phases of the Shalit swap deal. Shalit will be transported to a Red Cross Committee in Gaza on Tuesday, after which he will cross into Egypt through the Rafah Crossing and be held at an Egyptian military base in North Sinai, said Jants. Shalit will then be sent to an Israeli airbase in the center of Israel, Jants said. Shalit will undergo a medical checkup in Egypt, Jants told representatives of the Israeli army at a separate meeting. Shalit will be received by Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak, said Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahranoth. Shalit and his family will return home after the celebration and reception, the paper added. The Israeli prison sector will take measures to release the Palestinian prisoners on Sunday. The names of the released prisoners will be released on Saturday or Sunday.
