Egypt's Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Sherif El-Sherbiny, visited New Sphinx City following a tour of Sheikh Zayed City to review ongoing and planned development projects spanning approximately 85,000 feddans.
During his visit, El-Sherbiny chaired a meeting at the headquarters of the New Sphinx City Authority, where he reviewed operations at the technological center and evaluated the customer service system. He emphasized the need to streamline procedures and provide full facilitation to citizens and investors to ensure efficient, transparent services.
The minister also followed up on the status of applications submitted to legalize conditions for citizens and entities located on lands recently added to the city. A total of 6,863 applications have been submitted, covering nearly 85,000 feddans. Officials presented updates on the progress of reviewing these applications, expected completion timelines, and the status of infrastructure works for legalized areas, including water, sewage, road networks, and electricity.
The meeting further addressed the city's strategic and detailed planning frameworks, the schedule for completing and approving planning documents, and the implementation status of ministerial decrees related to development projects in New Sphinx City.
El-Sherbiny reviewed progress on several major infrastructure projects, most notably the 16-kilometer Sphinx Axis Road, including its first phase and expansion works. Updates were also provided on preliminary road construction, the installation of a 400–500 mm water pipeline along the connecting road from the Sheikh Zayed City extensions to the Sphinx Axis, and the first phase of the electrical supply project for lighting the axis.
Additionally, discussions covered procedures for establishing a drinking water intake from the Beheira Canal, construction of a water treatment plant, transmission lines extending approximately 15 kilometers, and the necessary pumping stations. Progress on initial roadworks and utility networks for internal roads within the city's urgent first development phase was also reviewed.
The visit forms part of the Ministry of Housing's broader efforts to accelerate infrastructure development in New Sphinx City and position it as a major urban expansion hub west of Cairo.
