Workers in Egypt's Fine Arts sector are looking forward to establishing an independent syndicate, which would protect their industry and ensure greater rights for workers. "The Syndicate's elections will be held on October 24 in order to choose the head and ten members to represent [the syndicate],” according to Hany Sayed Ahmed al-Sayed. Al-Sayed is the head of a negotiation committee that is in the last stages of establishing the syndicate. Al-Sayed said the main aim in establishing such a syndicate is to protect the legal rights of workers and to defend their interests. He also said that the syndicate would work to establish a fund for fellowships, help workers deal with marriage and death cases, and improve healthcare for members and their families. Hajj and Omra (the greater and lesser Islamic pilgrimages to Mecca) programs, as well as other trips for members, are expected to be included in these plans.
