CAIRO: The Egyptian inflation rate rose 1.5 percent in September 2011, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics reported Monday. The prices of vegetables, fish and gold led to the increase, the agency reported, adding that the price of vegetables rose 10.5 percent and fish prices rose 2.2 percent. Other commodity prices made slight increases, like sugar, 0.6 percent, oil, 0.5 percent, gold, 3.9 percent and washing powders, 2.2 percent. The price of meat and chicken fell however by 0.6 percent, and grains and bread prices fell 4.9 percent. The Agency also released year-to-date inflation rates, including vegetables, 14.7 percent; oil 16.1 percent; fish, 10.7 percent; sugar, 11.3 percent; grains and bread, 22 percent; meat and chicken, 1.7 percent; and fruit, 4 percent. Other year-to-date increases were more dramatic, like rice (61.2 percent), potatoes (31.1 percent), cheese (8.4 percent) and gold (48.9 percent).
