Egypt raised the necessity of establishing a permanent regional body for food security under the auspice of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It added the organization will hold rotating meetings to discuss issues related to food security. Ambassador Mohamed Abou Bakr said the historic developments and notable change in Egypt and other Arab states witnessed prompted the countries in the region to support the Egyptian proposal. He added representatives of the UN specialized agencies and representatives of the international financial institution also accepted the proposal. It is important to mention the meeting offered 70 recommendations reflecting challenges region confronts and nationally especially since most countries in the region are food net importers.
