The Townhouse Gallery will be presenting the first One Minute Africa Awards in the Factory Space downtown today. One Minute is a UNICEF sponsored film project was launched in 1998, which developed into a global network with filmmakers from over 100 countries and an archive of 10,000 videos, work that is shown worldwide. Part of the project is an annual competition in which the best one-minute films are selected from each participating continent in accordance to competition categories. The One Minute Africa Awards ceremony today will recognize the nominees of each competition category, (Portraits, In my backyard, Micro-commercials, Where history begins, Privacy, and Spoken Word and Sound) and announce the winners of each category. The One Minute Africa video competition included entries worldwide, as well as from workshops held by the six partner organizations, including Art Bakery, Art Republic, AYIZO Foundation, Greatmore Studios, Irisson, and Soleil d'Afrique. During the exhibition, the videos produced by the nominees, the One Minutes Foundation and recognized artists worldwide will be presented. During the awards ceremony, Townhouse Gallery will simultaneously host an exhibition of the nominated videos of One Minute Africa in the Factory Space alongside a selection of global One Minute films on the first floor of the gallery. The exhibition will run until October 5.
