CAIRO: Representatives from 22 Egyptian political parties today called on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to postpone the parliamentary elections for another six months. The parties made the demand to ensure a period of time during which all political movements can prepare for the elections, choose their candidates and counter those calling for the establishment of an Islamic state. In a statement, the representatives expressed their support for SCAF and called on the ruling military council to continue to run Egypt and return security and stability back to the country. They also called for new consideration of the laws governing the People's Assembly and the Shura Council. They threatened to boycott the parliamentary elections if their demands are not met. The Head of the Social Justice Party Mohamed Abdel Aal, the Head of the Arab Democratic Nasserite Party Mohamed Abou el-Elaa and the Head of the Egyptian Tahrir Party Ibrahim Zahran signed the statement. Other signatories include representatives from: Free Right-Wing Party, Youth of Egypt, Misr el-Fatah, The Democratic People, National Reconciliation, The Umma Party, The Party of January 25 Sons, Equality and Development Party, Misr el-Qawmi, Egypt Arab Socialist Party, The Party of Egypt 2000, The Arab Party for Justice and Equality, The Democratic Unionist Party, The Harar Party, The Conservatives Party, The Free Republican Party, Bedaya Party, The Green Party and The Labor Party.
