CAIRO: Former members of the now-dissolved National Democratic Party (NDP) asked leaders in the Salafi party “al-Nour” (The Light) to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections through the party, according to a member of the party. "We received applications several weeks ago from former NDP members to join the al-Nour party in order to run for parliamentary elections, but we totally refused all the applications whether for joining the party or for running in the elections," said Usri Hamad, member of al-Nour party. However, Hamad refused to unveil the names of the NDP members, saying the party does not defame anyone. He said the party would choose its candidates for elections in the coming days. Hamad said some former NDP members thought that religious movements are the easiest way to enter parliament. He also confirmed his party would not provide their candidates with financial support. Al-Nour party has not decided to align itself in any electoral coalition, he said. "We reject any alliance could divide Egyptians into Muslims and non-Muslims or Patriots and non-patriots." The party will soon launch its party newspaper.
