Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Khaled Tokan said Jordan awaits Egypt's call to sign the new treaty on Egyptian natural gas exports to Jordan. “Jordan used to receive 40 million to 50 million cubic feet of Egyptian natural gas daily, after the explosion of gas pipeline to Jordan,” said Tokan in a statement to Jordanian newspaper Al-Ghad today. Tokan agreed a bit late on the agreement to raise prices of Egyptian natural gas exported to Jordan, and now he waits for the Egypt's agreement and to sign the treaty. It is important to mention, the Jordanian gas pipeline was exposed to five explosions since February. These explosions resulted in a daily loss estimated at U.S. $5 million. The treaty of supplying Jordan with natural gas from Egypt was signed in 2004 and agreed upon for 15 years; it agreed upon the export of 240 million cubic feet daily to Jordan. This amount isn't efficient to produce 80 percent of Jordanian needs of electricity. Both countries agreed to the additional amount in July 2010, reaching 300 million cubic feet daily, but they didn't sign an agreement then.
