The Master Peace Initiate recently dubbed Cairo a “City of Peace” and invited representatives from the nation to join the International Day of Peace. The initiative organizes representatives of many nations to participate in peace-building activities and celebrate tolerance. The movement will begin to organize Egyptian activists, organizations, musicians and NGOs to act as representatives in the week of peace beginning September 16. “We hope to turn Cairo into a city of peace and restore its historic position as a center of civilization and peace,” said Momen Zaki, an official in the initiative. “We call on all lovers of peace to join us in this endeavor.” The International Day of Peace, a UN-sponsored initiative, began in 1981 with the goal of supporting a global culture of peace and halting all conflict and violence.
