Asem al-Gohary, advisor to the Minister of Justice for the Illicit Gains Authority is to renew the detention of former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif by 15 days. Nazif is suspected of using his positions as Prime Minister and Chair of the University for Science and Technology to make large real estate purchases totaling 4 billion EGP (U.S. $670.9 million). Nazif is also suspected of forcing the Ministry of Telecommunications to fund the University of Science and Technology. Ahmed Abdel Latif, head of the Illicit Gains Authority, continued investigations of Nazif surrounding the use of illegally obtained funds to purchase eight villas in Sharm el-Sheikh, 1,500 square meters of land in the district of Tagamou el-Khames, a palace and four flats in the district of Silmanya.
