The Salafi Scholars Shura Council “rejects the supra-constitutional articles because they are against the will of the Egyptian people,” said Waheed Abdel Salam, a member of the Council. “The ruling military council and the Council of Ministries have no right to introduce any legislation with regard to the constitution,” said Salam. “The Salafi scholars Council, including prominent scholars like Mohamed Hassan and Youssef Yacoub, will study the issue and escalate the protest if the articles are approved.” Members of the Sunnah group did not attend the meeting, headed by Deputy Egyptian Prime Minister Ali al-Selmi, during which the supra-constitutional articles were drafted, said Vice-Chairman of the group Gamal Abdel Rahman. “The only religious leader who attended the meeting was Sheikh Mohamed Mokhtar, president of the Legitimacy Assembly, and he rejected the supra-constitutional articles,” said Rahman. Vice-President of the Supreme Constitutional Court Judge Tahani el-Gebali drafted 21 amendments after negotiating with various political powers and representatives over the last few weeks. “The Deputy Egyptian Prime Minister will send the document to the ruling military council,” said el-Gebali. “The document received approval from the participating political powers.”
