Salafi Scholars Shura Council member Gamal Marakby has announced that the council is currently communicating with the likely presidential candidates to learn more about their electoral programs and to demand they amend all anti-Islamic laws should they become president. Marakby said the council would offer its advice to all candidates, including whoever wins the elections. However, if the advice to amend the anti-Islamic laws is refused then the council will call on Egyptians to ignore the elected president and that oppose the offending laws in accordance with the Quranic aya: "And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, then it is those who are the disbelievers." Salafi spokesman Khaled al-Saeed said, “The application of Islamic law is obligatory for all Muslims, not only Salfis. However, its application comes gradually through demands, followed by peaceful public pressure and not through the refusal of a particular law, so that the secularists do not regard it as rebellion.” “For example, we are against the criminal law as it is against Islamic law, and we will demand it is changed through parliament," he said.
