CAIRO: Prominent Egyptian opposition figure George Ishak visited the family of Omar Abdel Rahman, the so-called “blind sheikh,” amid the demonstrators outside the American Embassy in Cairo today, the first day of Eid el-Fitr. The leader of the Kefaya movement has visited the sheikh's family twice before. He wished that the U.S. will release the sheikh soon. Ishak released statements to Youm7 demanding the immediate release of Sheikh Abdel Rahman so he can return to Egypt, particularly because he is sick and blind. Ishak confirmed his total support for the sheikh's family. The sheikh's family said Ishak's support is an expression of the unification of the Egypt's people. Ishak is a member of Egypt's Coptic Christian community. Christians comprise about 10 percent of Egypt's population.
