The Egyptian Interior Ministry is looking into removing security guards from hotels, according to a member of the Federation of Tourist Chambers. A member of the Federation, Adel Abdel Razzak, said Minster of Interior Mansour el-Issawy is exploring removing security guards from hotels. If Ministry of Interior guards are removed, hotel administrations will be responsible for guarding their own buildings through contracts with private security companies. Abdel Razzak added that this is a response to hotel owners' complaints regarding the large security presence outside hotels, saying it frightens tourists and suggests that they are not safe. Abdel Razzak said he held a meeting with el-Issawy to discuss issues regarding the tourism sector such as how the Interior Ministry liaises with Bedouins. Abdel Razzak and el-Issawy also discussed street vendors' negative influence on tourism and decided to bolster the security monitoring on highways to avoid accidents involving bus tours.
