Political corruption is more dangerous than financial corruption, according to Egyptian Minister of Justice Mohamed el-Gendy. He added that the Ministry of Justice will discuss activating the Law of Treachery to try members of Egypt's formerly ruling regime for their political crimes. Gendy attended the first meeting of the anti-corruption coordinating committee today along with the deputy minister of justice for international cooperation, a delegate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the attorney of public funds, Ali el-Hawary. Gendy said that expanding the committee's tasks will be expanded to handle corruption cases in different governmental sectors. He alsos aid there will be an independent budget for the committee to increase its members. Investigations with former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and other members of his regime, along with their trials, revealed many corruption cases, according to Gendy. He said these cases would not have otherwise been discovered due to the absence of monitoring institutions resulting from prevailing corruption over the past years.
