CAIRO: The trial of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak began at 9:00 this morning at the Police Academy in Cairo's Fifth Settlement. His sons Alaa and Gamal, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, six of al-Adly's assistants, and fugitive businessman Hussein Salem are also defendants in the case. They face charges of murdering demonstrators during Egypt's January 25 uprising and financial corruption. Salem is being tried in absentia. Clashes between pro- and anti-Mubarak groups are ongoing outside the Police Academy.
