CAIRO: Shaymaa Khalil, a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reporter based in Cairo, was detained yesterday during the military and security siege on the Tahrir Square sit-in, reported Mohammad Said Mahfouz, talk show host on “Sabah On.” Khalil reported her arrest and detainment on her Twitter account, and called on the ruling military council to secure her release. In breaking up the sit-in, military forces detained some protestors, destroyed all tents in the central garden of the Square, fired warning shots to chase off demonstrators and opened traffic to the Square which hadn't seen cars since July 8.
