CAIRO: Sources say nearly 14,000 members from the dissolved National Democratic Party (NDP) founded a new party called the Egyptian Citizen Party, and filed papers at the Party Affairs Committee. The sources told Youm7 the creators of the new party are prominent former members of the NDP, the party of Egypt's deposed president, and are working quietly in the background. They do not want to prejudice potential members of the party, including a former Secretary General of the NDP Mohamed Ragab, former member of the People's Assembly Ahmad Abu Heggi and several other former members of the People's Assembly and Shura Council. Today the party awaits the Party Affairs committee to find out whether the committee will allow the party to be established. One of the party founders, Salah Hasballah, denied rumors of the party containing all the former members of the former ruling party NDP. He said over 65 percent of the 14,000 members never participated in political life up until Egypt's January 25 Revolution. He also said corrupt former members of the People's Assembly are banned from joining the new party and only those with a reputable political past who did not engage in election fraud were permitted to join the new party.
