Cultural and religious activities for the holy month of Ramadan will be held at all Cairo branches of the culture department, said Mohamed Shabrawi, Cairo culture director. All celebration activities will commence on August 9 and end on August 22. Maj. Gen. Mohamed Saleh Makrum and Khalid Fahim, among others, will attend the celebratory activities. The activities will include: lectures, seminars, religious chanting, religious and cultural competitions, fine art exhibitions, film screenings, children's stories about the January 25 Revolution, poetry readings and a celebration of 10 Ramadan. On Ramadan 10, 1393 AH (October 6, 1973), Egyptian and Syrian forces launched coordinated attacks on Israeli forces in the Sinai and the Golan Heights. The Egyptian Army crossed the Suez Canal and established a bridgehead, while the Syrians succeeded in occupying part of the Jawlan.
