Egypt's Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Orabi said combating terrorism requires taking all necessary measures to remove the roots of the phenomenon, in addition to legal and security measures. In a speech at the preparatory meeting of the International Forum for Combating Terrorism, he said security measures are not the only way to combat terrorism. He mentioned the need to confront the reasons contributing to the spread of the phenomenon. This principle was also expressed by the international strategy for combating terrorism adopted by the UN General Assembly. Foreign Minister al-Orabi confirmed that the strategy for combating terrorism should cooperate with international law, international human rights, international humanitarian law, and refugee rights. He stressed that Egypt is committed to these agreements. Al-Orabi stressed that Egypt will resume its efforts to combat terrorism, confirming Egypt's respect for its international commitments. He said international terrorism is one of the most dangerous threats to the international peace and security. He also refused linking terrorism to any religion. Judge Ali al-Sadek, assistant Minister of Justice, confirmed Egypt's commitment to implementing UN Security Council resolutions that aim at combating terrorism, especially since Egypt has ratified international agreements in this regard. Al-Sadek expressed the Egyptian people's confidence in the national authorites' ability to protect the internal arena against terrorism and terrorists.
