Cargo village authorities at Cairo airport blocked a porcelain powder shipment a few days ago. Atomic energy specialists at the airport said the shipment contained some radiation. Cargo village authorities released the shipment saying its radiation doesn't reach a harmful level. “The shipment has been detained in order to check samples,“ said Dr. Hafez al-Foli, Atomic Energy Authority advisor. He added, ”Shipment detention doesn't mean the shipment will be denied.” Al-Foli explained the procedures of shipment checks, saying, “Atomic scientists use group of small, developed instruments to check radiation presence in shipments. If any radiation is found, the shipment is detained. Then a sample of the shipment is taken to be checked in an atomic power plant. “The atomic power plant devices need liquid nitrogen cooling from time to time, which would create high costs if these devices were transferred to ports,” al-Foli added. Al-Foli said the authorities haven't rejected any shipment coming from Japan recently. “There are two kinds of radiation: natural radioactive elements, and radioactive elements resulting from atomic or nuclear explosion,” said al-Foli. “The second type is completely refused entry into Egypt, while the first type is measured to check its safety.” “Egypt was the first country to announce a plan on nuclear and radiological danger, followed by China, according to The International Atomic Energy Agency,” said al-Foli.
