Google email accounts in Egypt have not been compromised, said Wael el-Fakhrany, the manager of Google Egypt, on Wednesday. He said Gmail, a free email service provided by Google, is secure. He said, "If Gmail services were not secure they would not have been accepted by the half of the world.” The announcement comes after Google revealed that the Gmail accounts of high-profile American officials, military officials and journalists were hijacked and penetrated. Google accused China of being behind the attack. Amr Badawi, the executive president of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), said users should not keep any sensitive information in email accounts which are not secured. Erik Gross, an official in Google, said in a message published in the internet that Google had detected a campaign aiming to collect the passwords of the officials targeted in the U.S. He said they told the victims, promising to protect their accounts. Badawi said the accounts are not secured. He said users should not provide any personal information which they do not want to revealed in their accounts, especially as these accounts exist in the servers of international companies in other countries.
