GHARBIYA: Garbage has been accumulating since December in front of The General Hospital of al-Mahalla city in the Gharbiya governorate. Diseases have spread due to the hospital not having any storage facilities for the garbage. The hospital sent a letter to the waste management of the Ministry of Health asking them to remove the waste that is threatening the lives of patients. The garbage accumulated to 45 tons given that the hospital has around 39 machines of dialysis, each which produces a kilo of waste during an operation. There are wastes from the cancer department that will add an extra 12 tons to the garbage dump. In addition to this, the Medical Center of the hospital also produces 60 kilograms of harmful wastes per day. The one incinerator in al-Mahalla found at the tropical diseases hospital, broke down 5 months ago. The incinerator for al-Mahalla's General Hospital was closed due to a fire, while around five new ones have not yet operated.
