CAIRO: The January 25 Revolution managed to achieve many gains such as removing fear from the Egyptians' hearts, countering corruption and sending an implicit message to future leaders that Egypt is not the property of them or their sons, said a former Minister of Economy, Sultan Abu Ali. Abu Ali said the corruption that dominated Egypt during the former regime led to a 20 percent decline in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Abu Ali highlighted the long-term effects of the revolution, expecting Egypt will turn into a major regional power through its resources, including human resources. Abu Ali sees the human resources, which the former regime considered its foe, as the most important factor to achieve development. He said Japan and Switzerland possess only human resources and Singapore, which was a village of fishermen, managed to attract investments after eradicating the governmental bureaucracy. The former minister called to support the economy by restoring security and good behavior, stressing that Egyptian economy is strong despite the current deficit. Abu Ali blamed the economic management, not economy, for such problems.
