But Egypt were in full control and Saleh Gomaa almost equalized only for his effort to be blocked by the out-rushing keeper. VIDEO TO FOLLOW Expectedly, the equalizer came thanks to a combination from in-form duo Mohamed Abou-Treika and Mohamed Salah, who applied the finishing touch to notch home the skipper's cross. Shortly after, Emad Meteb was guilty of missing a big chance when he failed to hit the target with an easy header, following a terrific delivery by Islam Ramadan. VIDEO TO FOLLOW Wasteful! In the second half, Egypt should have scored five goals but a series of shambolic finishes marred their game, with full-back Ahmed Fathi sluggishly dispossessed when he was through on goal. Another huge miss followed when Meteb superbly eluded two defenders only to pass the ball into the keeper's hands. VIDEO TO FOLLOW But the chance of the day - probably the miss of the Olympics - came seconds before the end when Meteb rounded the keeper before blasting high in shocking fashion with the net at his mercy. Egypt's forgettable evening was almost complete when a counter attack saw New Zealand go with three men against goalkeeper Ahmed Al-Shennawi, who did brilliantly to come out and thwart the attacker.
