Mido says he joined Barnsley because he was impressed by the club's ambitions for next season but conceded he had nothing to prove at Oakwell. The Egyptian signed for the Tykes on a free transfer on Thursday, making his fifth move in seven years to an English club. Following unimpressive Premier League spells at Wigan and West Ham, Mido vows to do his best with his new Championship side, although he feels he is under no pressure to deliver. “When I talked to the gaffer I liked what he had to say. He is ambitious for the Barnsley Football Club," he told Barnsley official website. “We have a decent squad here and if we start the season well and work hard we will have a good chance to be in a good position. “I don't feel I have anything to prove. I want to come here and do my best for the Club and work hard. “I think Barnsley has everything to be successful and we need to push ourselves to get the most out of each performance." Boro meeting Mido is poised to make his league debut against former club Middlesbrough when the season kicks off in August as he expects a tough challenge at the Riverside. “The Championship represents a big challenge and there are a lot of big clubs here including an old club of mine Middlesbrough," the 29-year-old striker added. “I have a lot of friends there and have some very good players. It will be a tough opening game but with the home support behind us we will be looking to start the season well with three points."
