Ahli manager Manuel Jose believes that the recommencement of the Egyptian league is impossible in the midst of the recent unrest. The local competition has been halted indefinitely in the aftermath of the tragic Port-Said incidents that left more than 77 Ahli fans killed following a league fixture at Masri last month. While some pundits have been making suggestions over the safe resumption of the league, Jose is convinced there is no place for domestic football this term. “Resuming the league following what happened in Port-Said is impossible,” the 65-year-old told Ahli's official website. “Completing the remaining fixtures would need eight months or more; it is very difficult. “In my opinion, this term should be called off so that the new season starts by July or August.” It remains to be seen whether the league would be restarted as the EFA has yet to issue a decision on the matter. Amid the suspension of domestic action, Ahli's only competitive activity this season is the CAF Champions League as they take on Ethiopian Coffee in the round of 32.
