Bundesliga side Mainz have announced signing Egypt forward Mohamed Zidan from Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season. "I am happy that the transfer has been worked out at the last moment," the 30-year-old told Mainz website. "I wanted to return to Mainz. I have never forgotten the great time I had there with the club and their fans. "I've had fantastic years in Dortmund, who were looking for me to stay, but I wanted a new sporting challenge." Zidan joined his old club on a short-term move, with an option to sign a two-year extension in the summer. The ex-Hamburg striker has been far from happy with lack of first-team football at Dortmund despite winning the Bundesliga title Juergen Klopp's side last term. He repeatedly expressed his desire to leave but recently conceded that he might wait until the end the season to move for free. Zidan had a terrific spell at Mainz in 2007, bagging 13 goals in 15 games for the team.
