Stadiums are no prisons - Ultras Ahlawy
Published in FilGoal on 15 - 10 - 2011

Ultras Ahlawy members have set the record straight that they will not be restrained while supporting their team from the stands, a message they sought to put across during Ahli's Egyptian Premier League 1-0 victory against Harras Hodoud.
The hard-core fans let off illegal flares during their side's league opener, defying the EFA's decision to ban fireworks from the stands.
Ahli were already serving a stadium sanction imposed by the FA following violence that marred a cup game with Kima Aswan last month, resulting in the detention of several Ultras Ahlway members.
However, the enthusiastic fans don't seem to be fazed with the disciplinary action prompted by their conduct.
"No-one has the right to tell us how to root for our team, that's a message directed to the EFA and everyone who intends to turn football stadiums into prisons," an Ultras Ahlawy leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told FilGoal.com.
"The football stands are owned by the fans; no one could dominate the stands nor control the fans behavior.
"Fans create football stars and for them the game is played; a message we made clear in a game before, it presents an approach we adopt and everyone has to respect that.
"I don't know what harm these canisters might cause? As long as they are not thrown on the pitch, nothing could happen. There are no reasons to get them banned in Egypt.
"Having our home games staged away doesn't pose a problem for us, we support our team everywhere."
The Red Devils are facing a potential sanction of being fined EGP 20,000 plus having another home game staged away from Cairo.
