Zamalek coach Hossam Hassan vows not to repeat the mistake of making ‘fringe' summer signings that cost his team the league title this term. The Whites have all but lost the title race with bitter rivals Ahli, with five points separating them, two weeks before the end of the season. Despite repeatedly indicating that his team only lost the title because of ‘unjust refereeing', Hassan admitted that his club failed to make any major signings ahead of the 2010-2011 season. “We have learnt from the mistake of last summer when we missed out on good transfer targets,” he was quoted by Zamalek's official site. “We were forced to sign fringe players because of the club's financial crisis. “I think the managing staff had done well this season, but the inexperience of most players didn't help us in the competition.” Hassan had a meeting with chairman Galal Ibrahim regarding his summer transfer targets as he intends to announce the names at a press conference, according to the club's website. Zamalek made a handful of signings last summer, including Egypt number one Essam Al-Hadari, who left to join Merreikh of Sudan in the winter break. Mohamed Younes, Wagih Abdul-Azim, Ashour Al-Adham and Abou Kone were also acquired by Hassan, but none of them managed to carve out a regular place in the first eleven. Trials Meanwhile, Zamalek have handed trials to two more players in addition to Zambia star midfielder Felix Katongo. The club said that Ivorian striker Michael Mariano and Tunisia international defender Arabi Jaber are training with the first team. Jaber, who is a free agent after leaving Ittihad of Libya, said: “I played for the Tunisia first team and Olympic team and I will do my best to become a Zamalek player. “I know that my compatriots Wissem Abdi and Yamen ben Zekri had unsuccessful spells with Zamalek, but this is not a standard for Tunisian player because Anis Boujelbene succeeded with Ahli.”
