The Malians played with ten men for 80 minutes as star striker Kalifa Coulibaly was given a straight red card in the opening ten minutes for an off-the-ball challenge on Ahmed Hegazi. Egypt remain second of Group A with three points, leveling with hosts South Africa, who edged minnows Lesotho 2-1 earlier on Wednesday. Mali have booked their place in the semi-final and thus become the first African nation to reach the 2011 World Cup in Colombia. Egypt now need a draw against South Africa in their final group game on Saturday.
