The success of Asamoah Gyan at the World Cup came as no surprise to the Ghana prolific marksman, who expected to hit headlines at the South Africa finals. Gyan, who is often deployed as a lone striker in coach Milovan Rajevac's starting line-up, played a pivotal role in helping Ghana reach the World Cup quarter finals to emulate the feat of Cameroon and Senegal. He scored three goals in four games as the Black Stars set up a last-eight meeting with an in-form Uruguay side on Friday. "I did expect to score goals here because I did so well for my club and the confidence is there," Gyan, who plays for French side Stade Rennes, said on Thursday. "I've scored many goals for my club. I am not surprised. When I am 100% fit, I know what I can do on the field. "I am not surprised to be a star here. I know what I am worth when I am 100% fit. I thank God for that. People compare me with big names like Lionel Messi and I'm very happy to hear that. They are the best strikers in the world." Gyan scored a decisive extra-time goal to lead Ghana to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the United States in the second round. He also converted two penalties in the group stage as the four-time African champions finished second in Group D behind Germany. They can now make history and become the first African side to reach the semi finals. "Uruguay are a difficult side but we don't care who we are going to play against. We are ready to play anyone," Gyan added. "I don't think that is a problem. We shall go there and play our hearts out and we will come out victorious."
