Bayern Munich manager Louis van Gaal urges UEFA to minimize the sanction of Franck Ribery after the Frenchman saw straight red in the Champions League win over Lyon. Ribery was given his marching orders after just 37 minutes for stamping on the foot of Lisandro Lopez, yet Van Gaal believes he shouldn't have went off. "He didn't lunge at him with his leg. It is a harsh red card, but you can give it," said the Bayern boss after his side's 1-0 semi-final first-leg win. "Franck gave the referee the chance to send him off by standing on his foot for longer than necessary. "I hope he only gets banned for one match." Satisfied Despite the slender lead, Van Gaal is happy with the overall performance of his team, who played most of the game with a man down. "I'm very satisfied. We showed Europe tonight how strong we are by dominating with ten men against 11," added the Dutchman. "I didn't think we would win 1-0 with [Franck] Ribery getting a red card, but even when we were a man down we were the dominant side. We created more chances when we had ten men against 11."
