Egypt have made up for missing out on the World Cup by winning the African Cup of Nations for the seventh time, said attacking midfielder Mohamed Nagi 'Geddo'. "Winning the competition compensated for our World Cup disqualification," he told Al-Jazeera TV. "We exerted huge efforts to claim this title." The Pharaohs were ousted from the World Cup after losing to Algeria 1-0 in November's decider, which was set up after both teams became equal in points, goal difference, goal scored and head-to-head record in the qualifiers. Ironically, Egypt spanked the Desert Foxes 4-0 in the Nations Cup semi-finals last week. Top Scorer Geddo, who was named CAN's top scorer with a five-goal tally, wrapped up Egypt's 1-0 win over Ghana Thursday after hitting the winner four minutes from time. The 25-year-old said he had expected to score in the Nations Cup final, but was surprised to claim personal accolades. "I speculated that I would score in the final, but never thought I would be named the top scorer," an ecstatic Geddo said. Surprisingly, the Ittihad star has never been included in Egypt's starting line-up. Geddo, who's believed to be targeted by a host of European sides, also won the discovery-player-of-the-tournament award. The scoring sensation has only featured for the African champions seven times overall. Offers Speaking of his overseas suitors, the talented schemer said: "I don't know anything about the offers that were made for me, I fully focused on the competition over the past weeks. "When I get back to Egypt I will decide on my future." Geddo is likely to move away from Ittihad by the end of the season. The January transfer window is closing on Monday, so he doesn't have a much of a chance to seal a winter move.
