Zamalek officials are exchanging accusations over the potential exit of Mido in January. Football director Ibrahim Hassan said he filed an official request to the board for holding on to Mido. Mido joined Zamalek in the summer on a one-season loan from Middlesbrough. But the 26-year-old striker said he wants to return to Europe during the winter transfer window because of his late wages. The Cairo club management agreed to let Mido go because of the financial crisis. "We need Mido here," Hassan told FilGoal.com "He would stay if he received his late money."
A spokesman for Zamalek said these accusations are incorrect. "If the coaching staff wants Mido to stay, why did they give him permission to fly to England for negotiations?" board member Sabri Serag wondered. "I hope that the coaching staff would focus on developing the team and leave such decisions to the board." Mido scored only once for Zamalek this season in the 1-1 draw with Gouna. He failed to impress in the beginning of the season but got sharper under manager Hossam Hassan, who took over in November.
