Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is facing a six-week layoff after sustaining a knee injury while being on international duty. The Ghanaian player, who has recently recuperated from a hamstring problem, was ruled out of the African Cup of Nations quarter-finals after suffering an interstitial tear in the media ligament. Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti revealed that Essien needs more than one month on the sidelines to reach full recovery. "He had a tear in the meniscus, and he has to stay out for four to six weeks. I hope four," Ancelotti told the Blues' official site. "In January, Essien was not here, he was at the African Cup. "Maybe we lose him for one month, it is not good news but I think that we will do a good job again."
